Metal Detecting & Geophysical Survey
We have in-house metal detecting facilities in order to carry out non-intrusive surveys. In some cases, the Authorities may request terrestrial metal detecting be carried out in tandem with test trenching. In other instances, underwater metal detecting may be requested as part of a wade survey in advance of in-river or coastal developments.
We work closely with a number of geophysicists in order to satisfy planning requirements for non-intrusive geophysical surveys. This is a specialised application and the type of geophysics required can depend upon ground conditions and the type of subsurface archaeology anticipated. In Ireland, both metal detecting and geophysical survey require a licence.
