Cartographic & Documentary Analysis
Analysis of mapping forms a key component of all projects in order to trace land use development, growth of complexes and phasing of structures. We use mapping from a number of sources that range from the historic to the contemporary. We also rely upon aerial photography available over the last 50 years in order to trace more recent landscape developments in tandem with cartographic analysis.
Documentary research of publications, journals and statutory lists also forms an intrinsic part of every report and involves consultation with relevant archives and libraries in order to define the archaeological and historical background of a specific study site.
We carry out a wide range of research activities for the purposes of our standard reports. It is also possible to carry out specific historical research of an upstanding building, a family related to an historical demesne, an archaeological monument, a rural area, town or city using cartographic and documentary evidence.
